Well Isn’t This a Fine Mess

As Oliver Hardy was known to say to his partner Stan Laurel, “Well isn’t this a fine mess you’ve gotten us into…?, I believe it is apropos in this time for all of us. Let’s face it, the likes of this virus pandemic have not been seen in over 100 years. I am shocked by the amount of people who are taking it so lightly, and how little regard they have for their friends and family and fellow man for that matter. Just a side note, I will still be wearing a mask and social distancing until a vaccine is available. I don’t think I’ll be alone on that matter. I’m pulling for the end of the year, but that may be optimistic. The hard part will be the manufacturing of enough vaccines for all who need it.

This falls under the “people in Hell want ice water too” category. I’m sure many of us are suffering from the absence of all the once in a life time events that were supposed to happen this year. No High School Graduations, Weddings, Birthday Celebrations, Vacations, Funerals, and all public gatherings and events. 2020 was going to be a big year for me. A trip to Ireland with my Grandchildren in August, a short respite in Florida this March, my 70th Birthday in April, a move to Atlanta this Fall. We feel robbed of these experiences. It is devastating.

It’s hard to describe the feeling of weirdness that permeates the walls of my home and my mind. The atmosphere outside is even different. Knowing that people are sick and dying in hospitals everyday also ads to our worries. We know things are different and it plays on our minds. This is new territory for all of us.
